The Nashville Zoo has an annual event called "Ice Day" that I have been wanting to go to for about three years now and we finally made it this year. At Ice Day, they make up frozen treats for the animals and then have scheduled times where they feed them. The tigers, for example, get a 5-gallon turkey flavored ice block. Elephants get large fruit flavored rings of ice, and this sort of thing.

We ate free ice cream.

It was sooo humid and hot. Temperature was in the 90's and it had rained the day and night before so humidity felt like it was 100%!

Actually, I mostly wanted to go see the meerkats get ice treats. As I have said in the past, we used to be crazy about Meerkat Manor and we have our meerkat painting we got at the zoo auction last year. They were so cute...but a bit fat. These meerkats seem to be a little overweight. Their keeper called them, "pleasantly plump." As a result, they weren't moving very fast!

So, I just turned on the TV, was flipping through the guide and found a new show. It's called, Bathroom Divas: So You Want To Be An Opera Star?
It's a show that's a singing competition type thing...like American Idol for opera singers and much more low budget. Not sure about the name of the show...I think they call it "Bathroom Divas" because supposedly the singers are going from singing in the shower to singing opera. (However, I don't think that anyone goes from singing in the shower to suddenly being an opera singer...I have personally know is a lot more in between there.)

I'm just very happy to finally see a singing competition on TV that has singers, being judged by real professional, trained singers, coaches and teachers. And nice to see it's not all about showing how bad some people can look and sound on national TV.
It's on a small network, that we didn't have until we got DirecTV. It would be good to see a show like this coming from a more mainstream source, because it would be nice if more of the general public could truly respect the art more and understand the amount of skill it takes for us to learn to sing opera and classical music. It's pretty much a lifelong process, I think.

And actually, I think this is a Canadian show. So, maybe you've already seen it back home?

Yesterday I learned some very good news. As I have mentioned before, Jerrod and I LOVE the show Meerkat Manor. It's basically a narrated documentary type show on the daily lives of these families of Meerkats living in the Kalahari Desert. Unless you have seen it, it's difficult to really explain why it is so good, but....it's good. It's really just good.
Anyway, what I learned is that there is going to be a full length Meerkat movie coming to theaters in 2008! It is made by the makers of Meerkat Manor and is going to mostly revolve around the life of one of the main characters and most popular meerkats who died this past season from a snake bite. (I know, sad).
This is so exciting for us since we love them so much. I can hardly wait to see it.

I went on a mission today, hoping to find some cheap beads for some wedding pages I am scrapbooking. After a trip yesterday to one of my favorite stores, I discovered that I was not able to use my 50% off coupon there like I had hoped. (Long story, but basically I'm mad at them for sending of 50% coupons but then discounting everything in the store 30 or 40% and then not letting me use the higher discount...It's a trick to get you into the store and so I decided not to buy my beads there if I could get them cheaper elsewhere).
Anyway, I tried looking at the flea market, because they always have lots of jewelry there and I thought maybe I could find some premade things and then take them apart for the beads and that would be cheaper. I am always looking for the best deal, no matter how or where it comes...even if I do have to drive accross town to go to the flea market to find it. Well, I didn't end up finding anything worth purchasing there, but one fun thing did happen.
I overheard this girl talking to an antique dealer about how she was an actress and did some TV work and such.I don't know why I started listening at first, but I was interested. And she also looked somewhat familiar to me; I thought she looked like a girl I knew from church. Well, I kind of continued to ease drop and then the antique dealer asked her what she had done in the television realm and she said, "Have you heard of Grey's Anatomy? I am on that show sometimes." Right away my ears perked up because that is one of my favorite shows (that I never miss!) and looked at her knew why I recognized her then and said, "Hey! Yeah, you are!" And she said, "Yep, there you go."
Anyway, she is the girl who plays Dr. Sydney Heron, that really perky, happy and annoying Doctor. She doesn't have a main role, but she is on there. I've added a picture: Do you know who I'm talking about?
I wished I had brought my camera so I could have taken a picture with her to show Jerrod, 'cause we just watched her on the show the night before. Jerrod just said, "What was she doing at the flea market?" He always makes fun of me when I go there because he said it's redneck. So, I don't know why she was at the Nashville Flea Market, but she is apparently from Memphis, so maybe this is sort of her neck of the woods. And why the flea market, I don't know. But, even actors from the most popular show on TV still might like good deals.
